Ohio State will be transitioning to the Huron Research Suite to support and facilitate several research administration functions over the next few years. The system is used widely and provides one, integrated, comprehensive research administration solution across multiple areas of ERIK-managed research activities. The solutions also integrate with existing Ohio State systems - in fact, several Huron systems are already used at Ohio State.
Buck-IRB Transition
The first solution to be implemented is the IRB system that will replace Buck-IRB. The new system will go live in March 2025.
Buck-IRB is the Ohio State-developed electronic submission smart form that was created 10 years ago. Buck-IRB is past its end of life and does not meet updated regulatory compliance needs, which prompted the move to a new system.
The Huron system will allow the IRB process to be consolidated into one system, from protocol development to submission, and finally to IRB review and approval. Huron features a less cumbersome IRB application combined with a protocol template, and a comprehensive toolkit that includes SOPs, an investigator manual, reviewer checklists, and staff worksheets. The Huron system is based on accredited IRB operating norms and will address some of the pain points of Buck-IRB by providing enhanced reporting, version tracking, progress tracking, and more. Each investigator will have their own dashboard that displays their studies and identifies items requiring attention.
The Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge team is working through internal training, testing and developing training for users now.
More details, information, and training opportunities will be shared once they are available. Questions? Email them to IRBInfo@osu.edu.
