Getting Started with LabArchives

Create or Activate a New LabArchives Account

If you have not used LabArchives and do not already have an account, this guide walks you through the process of creating or activating a new account.

If you received an email from a colleague adding you to a notebook or were invited to a course by your instructor and you have never created a LabArchives account, you will follow this process for creating/activating your account.

Users with existing personal or departmental LabArchives accounts need to convert their account to the Ohio State enterprise license.

Create or activate a new account

  1. Navigate to go.osu.edu/LabArchives
  2. Click I do not have a LabArchives account and need to create or activate one.
  3. Enter your lastname.#@osu.edu email. Do not use a buckeyemail.osu.edu or osumc.edu email address.
  4. Click Create New Account.
  5. Click Yes to link your LabArchives account with your Ohio State login credentials.
  6. Confirm that your information is correct, then click Update.
  7. Your LabArchives account has been created. For future logins, you will use your lastname.# and university password.
  8. Select the Notifications tab on the left side of the screen and check the boxes for the email notification you would like to receive.
  9. Select the Office Document Editor tab on the left side of the screen to select which program will be used to view and edit documents in your notebooks.

Faculty and staff affiliated with OSUMC can use Microsoft Office Online in this situation. LabArchives uses Office Online only as an editor. All content stays within LabArchives.

Convert an existing LabArchives account

Ohio State has purchased an enterprise license for LabArchives. If you currently have a LabArchives account, complete the following steps to convert your account to the Ohio State enterprise license.

Once you convert your account, you will log in to LabArchives using your lastname.# and university password. All lab notebooks associated with your existing account will be there unchanged.
