Melvin DeGroote (1895-1963) graduated with a degree in chemical engineering in 1915, received his professional degree in chemical engineering in 1942 and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science in 1955 all from Ohio State.
Howard Sirak (1922-2015) was a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon at Ohio State who performed the first open-heart surgery in Columbus in the early 1950s. In 1957, he led an Ohio State team that developed a heart pump.
Herbert Osborn (1856-1954) was professor of entomology at Ohio State and served as chairman of the Department of Zoology and Entomology from 1898-1916.
Janice Kiecolt-Glaser is a Distinguished University Professor and the S. Robert Davis Chair of Medicine at Ohio State. She is also director of the Institute for Behavioral Medicine Research.
