Vesta Daniel, Education

Vesta Daniel, professor emeritus of Arts Administration, Education and Policy at Ohio State, is recognized as a national leader in the field of multicultural education.

Her research focuses on community-based art education and issues of diversity and resistance education. One of her recent projects looks at community-based art that is attributed or unattributed to specific creators and how it can function as an element of resistance against community encroachmentThe intent of this research is to suggest possibilities for educators and community members to include resistance as a welcome educational strategy.

Daniel is the recipient of Ohio State’s Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching and the Distinguished Affirmative Action Award. She has also been recognized by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Institute for the Arts, the National Art Education Association, the Committee on Multiethnic Concerns, and J. Eugene Grigsby Award for Outstanding Contributions to Art Education.
