Ulrich Heinz, Physics

Ulrich Heinz, Physics

Ulrich Heinz is a professor in the Department of Physics at Ohio State.

Heinz’s work focuses on the field of theoretical nuclear physics, and he has studied extensively the first microseconds of the universe and the types of matter that were present. One of his major discoveries is that the universe did not start out as a hot gas, but rather a near perfect liquid. His research has influenced work on relativistic heavy ion physics as well as interpretation of experimental data.

He received the 2018 Humboldt Research Prize by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation in recognition of his entire body of work and its significant impacts on the field of physics. Heinz is a fellow with American Association for the Advancement of Science and was awarded a University Distinguished Scholar Award in 2007.
