Richard Hill is a professor and Dean Emeritus at the College of Optometry. A faculty member at Ohio State since 1964, Hill’s research focuses on the neuro-physiology of the visual system and the physiology of the eye. He was dean of the College of Optometry from 1988 to 1995.

While at Berkeley School of Optometry, Hill studied the physiological aspects of wearing contact lenses. Hill and his partner Irving Fatt became the first researchers to quantify oxygen uptake in the cornea and also contributed to a new approach to measuring oxygen under contact lenses.

Hill has been the recipient of many awards through his career. This includes Ohio State’s Distinguished Service Award and the Gold Medal of the British Contact Lens Association.
