Office of Sponsored Programs’ micro-purchase threshold increasing to $75,000 July 1

Effective July 1, the Micro-Purchase Threshold (MPT) will increase from $25,000 to $75,000.

Ohio State’s Federal Cognizant agency approved the threshold increase in accordance with Uniform Guidance, 2 CFR 200.320(a)(1)(v). This is the threshold used both for federal and non-federal funds. As a public institution, this higher threshold is also consistent with Ohio state law.

This increase is also consistent with the increase to the university’s bid/waiver threshold, which is increasing from $25,000 for goods and $50,000 for services to $75,000 for both goods and services. Procurements of goods/services, all or in part, prior to July 1 will be subject to the prior MPT and/or university bid/waiver thresholds.

Ohio State’s Board of Trustees also approved an increase to the bidding thresholds so that no competitive bidding is required for the purchase of equipment, materials, supplies, services or any combination of services, equipment, materials and supplies, if the total is less than $75,000.

These updates were made predicated on:

  • public bidding thresholds have risen during the past ten years;
  • threshold increases are infrequently reviewed; and
  • comparatively, Ohio State’s operating budget and related expenditures are larger than that of other state universities.
