Fosler-Lussier shares update on Arts and Humanities Faculty Fellowship with the Office of Research

Danielle Fosler-Lussier

Danielle Fosler-Lussier was named the Arts and Humanities Faculty Fellow with the Office of Research for academic year 21-22.

Fosler-Lussier is a professor in the School of Music, where she has taught since 2003. Her principal interests include: music in international contact and exchange; the role of women in the creation of concert life, state support for the arts, educational institutions; and music history pedagogy.  She is also serving as vice president of the American Musicological Society through November 2022.

During her time as faculty fellow in autumn, Fosler-Lussier has administered Office of Research-funded grant programs in arts and humanities, and reshaped the program guidelines to ensure that those faculty whose research or creative activity was most hindered by the pandemic are supported as they restart and renew.

She is also partnering with the Center for the Humanities in Practice to ensure the research skills arts and humanities graduate students gain through their programs translate seamlessly as the students move into a variety of professional pathways. “Artists and humanists are good at handling complex data about human situations— they are imaginative problem-solvers and excellent communicators,” shares Fosler-Lussier. “These are marketable skills, and it’s worthwhile to make sure students, advisors, and employers are thinking about that.”

Within the Enterprise for Research Innovation and Knowledge, the Arts and Humanities Faculty Fellow in the Office of Research:

  • provides insights into programs, the innovation campus, and other support that could be offered by the Office of Research to increase the distinction of research and creative expression in the humanities and arts.
  • serves as a liaison between the Office of Research, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Theme and others to leverage existing relationships and develop others that increase interdisciplinary research and creative expression throughout the OSU community.
  • creates formal feedback that appropriately benchmarks current programs and identifies opportunities to expand research and creative expression at Ohio State
  • works with Office of Research and College leaders to update strategic plan to acknowledge health and social events that have occurred in Ohio, the nation and the world during the past 18 months.

“At Ohio State, we are so fortunate to have such incredible teams of faculty, staff, and students in the arts and humanities. The new faculty fellow leadership role provides a two-way lens that provides the Office of Research a better perspective on the great things that are happening in the arts and humanities, and in turn, gives arts and humanities faculty and leadership a role in shaping the future of the Office of Research,” shared Peter Mohler, interim vice president for research.
