Deborah Jones Merritt is professor and John Deaver Drinko-Baker & Hostetler Chair in Law, for the Moritz College of Law. Along with Prof. Ric Simmons also from the Moritz College of Law, she has published a well-regarded textbook, which offers a new pedagogy for teaching basic evidence coursework titled Learning Evidence: From the Federal Rules to the Courtroom. The textbook is now in its fourth edition.
Merritt has also published a wide array of work regarding affirmative action, equality, and social sciences issues. Her convergent career has led to other appointments at Ohio State including courtesy professor of sociology, courtesy professor of public policy and management, and associate faculty member in women’s studies.
As an outstanding professor and educator in the field of law, Merritt has received many prominent awards including the university’s Distinguished Lecturer, Distinguished Scholar, Distinguished Teacher and Distinguished Diversity Enhancement.
