Describing DMSP Costs in a Detailed Budget
- ALL Data Management and Sharing Policy (DMSP) costs, both personnel and non-personnel, must be included as a single line titled Data Management and Sharing Costs in Other Direct Costs in Section F of the R&R budget form.
- If there will be no cost to the award, enter 0 in the funds requested column.
- If award funds are being requested, enter the total ($19,181 for year 1 in the example budget) for each year in the funds requested column.
- In the Budget Justification attachment, add a section labeled Data Management and Sharing Justification that includes details of the funds requested e.g., based on the example budget:
- As part of the proposed work we will generate measurements from the instrumentation in the lab. The output will be generated as comma-separated values (CSV) files. These CSV files will be stored in LabArchives, the electronic lab notebook licensed by The Ohio State University. The files will be curated by team members and shared via a repository at the time of publication and any remaining data not covered by publications will be shared at award closeout. We have requested funds to cover costs related to data storage and sharing ($19,181 in year 1). Specifically, we are requesting $2,000 per year for repository fees as well as salary support for the following personnel to prepare and manage data for storage: Postdoctoral researcher 1 calendar month, Research Scientist, 0.5 calendar month, GRA 3 calendar months. These employees will spend the rest of their project effort on other project-related activities. Adjust for out years as appropriate.
Describing DMSP Costs in a Modular Budget
- DSMP costs are not broken out in modular budgets. However, they need to be addressed in the Additional Narrative Justification attachment to the PHS 398 Modular Budget Form.
- If award funds will be used (as in the budget example) include a brief justification in the Additional Narrative Justification e.g., from the example budget:
- Data Management and Sharing Justification $total amount for all years.
- As part of the proposed work, we will generate measurements from the instrumentation in the lab. The output will be generated as csv files. These CSV files will be stored in LabArchives, the electronic lab notebook licensed by The Ohio State University. The files will be curated by team members and shared via a repository at the time of publication and any remaining data not covered by publications will be shared at award closeout. - If there will be no cost to the award, the Additional Narrative Justification section is still required and should be headed “Data Management and Sharing Justification $0”. Since there will be no cost to the award no additional text is required.
