Charles Clark Stillman, Social Work

Charles Clark Stillman

Charles Stillman (1877 -1952) was professor emeritus and director emeritus for the School of Social Administration at Ohio State.  In 1930, he developed the first curriculum in the United States for community organization. Because of this program and his leadership, the School for Social Administration became well-known as a training center for leaders of community foundations and United Way-type organizations.

In addition to many research activities, Stillman was the author of Social Work Publicity: Its Message and Its Method and of numerous social service survey reports throughout the country.

Stillman Hall, which houses the College of Social Work, is named for him.  The building was constructed through assistance of funds from the Ohio Works Progress Administration, a federal organization which Stillman was the administrator.
