Plan now for spring semester RCR training

Copied!

For those needing to fill National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation (NSF) requirements for training in the responsible conduct of research (RCR), it’s time to think about registering for a spring semester course.

Developed by the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge, GRADSCH 8000: Responsible Conduct of Research, provides a practical overview of the rules, regulations and professional practices that define the responsible conduct of research. The course will be held on the Columbus campus (location TBD) on Wednesdays from 10 – 10:55 a.m. during spring semester.

This course is open to all graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and Ohio State staff members who must complete RCR training to fulfill fellowship, training grants or program requirements. Faculty, including those who serve as trainee grant directors, serve as the weekly facilitators with subject matter experts in related topics and facilitator guides.

The course features facilitated discussions from experts across campus – weekly topics include:

  • Ohio State research and shared values
  • Research misconduct
  • Safe and healthy research environments
  • Animal welfare in research
  • Conflicts of interest/conflicts of commitment
  • Data acquisition and management
  • Secure and ethical data use; data confidentiality
  • Mentor/mentee relationships
  • Human subjects research
  • Responsible authorship and publication practices
  • Secure and confidential peer review
  • Collaborative research, data management, sharing and ownership
  • The researcher in society

The course is graded based on attendance, participation, weekly reflections, a data management plan and a group case study presentation. As a graduate course, a minimum of 80% is required for a satisfactory (passing) grade.

Registration for GRADSCH 8000 must be completed through BuckeyeLink

  • Graduate student registration opens October 25.
  • Faculty, staff or postdoctoral researchers not in a degree granting program must complete the Graduate non-degree process before registering. Graduate non-degree registrations must be done by December 9.
