Effective May 1, 2025, the Department of Energy (DOE) requires all individuals participating on new DOE project proposals to complete a Research Security training course before the proposal can be submitted. DOE indicates that project personnel will certify completion of the training, via Current and Pending Support disclosure certification, and the university will monitor compliance through BuckeyeLearn.
The National Science Foundation (NSF), in partnership with the DOE, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Defense (DOD), developed a four-hour collection of research security training modules to meet upcoming sponsor research security training requirements. Ohio State worked with partner universities and approval from NSF to develop a 1-hour condensed research security training course in BuckeyeLearn based on the NSF material. Completing this course will allows faculty, staff and students to meet the DOE research security training requirement.
Individuals may elect to instead take the four NSF training modules linked from the DOE Research Security Training web page. These training modules provide information on risks and threats to the global research ecosystem, and the knowledge and tools necessary to protect against these risks.
