There are many assets available for to assist researchers in submitting studies to the Huron IRB system. Users can log in to the Huron IRB system by using their Ohio State username (last name.#) and password.
Navigating the Huron IRB System
- PIs and study staff can become familiar with the system by taking a brief training module in BuckeyeLearn.
- Visit the Using Huron IRB for Institutional Review Board Study Submission page for an overview of getting started in the system.
- Tip sheets have been created to help researchers navigate the Huron IRB system, including: Create a New Study; Reportable New Information (formerly Event Reporting); and Respond to a Clarification Request.
- The Huron IRB system Help Center can be found under the IRB > Help Center and contains additional materials to help researchers navigate the system.
Developing Protocols
- All new submissions must include both the SmartForm and the fully complete appropriate protocol template (and appendices) found in the Huron IRB system under the IRB > Library > Templates tabs. Old templates or those not sourced from the Huron system can not be accepted.
- The Investigator Manual is designed to guide researchers through policies and procedures related to the conduct of human subjects research that are specific to Ohio State. It is also available in the Huron IRB system, under the IRB > Library > General tab.
- A Toolkit Document Crosswalk has been created to help researchers navigate the change from former Ohio State HRPP policies used for Buck-IRB to the Huron IRB system.

- Frequently Asked Questions: FAQs have been established and are updated as necessary to help answer common questions.
- ERIK Knowledgebase: Find step-by-step guides to assist with technical questions.
- Technical issues: For troubleshooting access to the Huron IRB system or if information in it is incorrect or missing, please submit a ticket to the ORIS Help Desk Support.
- Office Hours: Researchers needing help navigating the new Huron IRB system can attend upcoming virtual office hours. These sessions will focus on the differences between the Buck-IRB and Huron IRB systems, including where to find and how to use needed submission materials. For those needing IRB regulatory guidance, separate office hours are available through the Research Commons.
