Carol Anderson, historian, author and civil rights thought leader, received her PhD in history from Ohio State in 1995. She is currently the Charles Howard Candler Professor of African American Studies and Emory University and is one of the country’s leading scholars of race and foreign policy.
She has written numerous award-winning books on African American involvement in foreign policy and domestic rights issues including Eyes Off the Prize: The United Nations and the African American Struggle for Human Rights, 1944–1955 and Bourgeois Radicals: The NAACP and the Struggle for Colonial Liberation, 1941–1960. Her recent books White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide and One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression Is Destroying Our Democracy have been widely hailed for their intelligent contributions to current political conversations. In addition to her books, she has become one of the go-to public intellectuals on matters of race and global rights discourse.
Anderson had received numerous awards over her career, including the Williams Award and Teacher-Scholar Award from Emory University. She also was awarded the 2018 Fellowship in Constitutional Studies from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. She has served as a member of the Historical Advisory Committee of the U.S. Department of State and on the Board of Directors of the National Economic & Social Rights Initiative.
