New research security training requirement for NSF projects

Copied!

Effective October 10, 2025, the National Science Foundation (NSF) requires all senior/key personnel participating on new NSF project proposals to complete a research security training course before the proposal can be submitted. Additionally, NSF requires all faculty, staff, students, and postdoctoral researchers supported by NSF-sponsored projects complete the same research security training within 60 days of appointment to the project. This requirement is in addition to the required CITI RCR training

This is the same course that the Department of Energy began requiring in May. Before submitting a proposal to either federal funding agency, researchers are required to take the course once in a 12-months period.

Completing the condensed, 1-hour research security training course in BuckeyeLearn will meet the requirement for faculty, staff and students. Compliance will be monitored in BuckeyeLearn and Authorized Organizational Representatives (AORs) will certify that all personnel have completed the training at the time of submission.
