NIH announces phase‑out of Continuous Submission and updates on late submissions

Copied!

NIH announced it will be ending its Continuous Submission policy and updating other rules for late grant submissions.

  • NIH will only accept Continuous Submission applications through August 10, 2026 (the end of the continuous submission receipt period for the June/July standard due dates) for assignment to January 2027 Council.  After that date, Continuous Submission applications will not be accepted.
  • Beginning with due dates on or after May 25, 2026, only narrowly defined, PD/PI‑specific circumstances will qualify for late acceptance, including recent participation on a NIH peer review study section or special emphasis panel.  More details are linked below.
  • Several applications, including Fellowships, SBIR/STTR, and international collaboration applications, are no longer eligible for late submission at all.
