Frederick Luis Aldama, Latin Studies

Frederick Aldama is a University Distinguished Professor, Arts & Humanities Distinguished Professor of English, University Distinguished Scholar and Alumni Distinguished Teacher at Ohio State. His areas of expertise include Latino literature and film, comic book studies and narrative theory.

He founded and is currently the director of LASER (Latinx Space for Enrichment and Research), which is a total mentoring system for Latino students from high school through college and professional schools. Aldama also created the first documentary on Latinx superheroes in comics. In 2018, his book Latinx Superheroes in Mainstream Comics won the International Latino Book Award and the Eisner Award for Best Scholarly Work.

He has written and edited over 40 books and is the editor of eight academic press book series. In 2019 he was awarded the Rodica C. Botoman Award for Distinguished Teaching and Mentoring and the Susan M. Hartmann Mentoring and Leadership Award.
