Bhavik Bakshi, Richard M. Morrow Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, has earned The Ohio State University 2022 Distinguished Scholar Award in recognition of decades of research leadership. Senior leadership in the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge surprised Bakshi with the honor at a recent Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering faculty meeting.
"Congratulations on this really extraordinary accomplishment that reflects what we allknow – you are a rock star, who is not only an exceptionally gifted scientist, but alsoan innovator and visionary leader doing incredibly impactful research." said Dorota Grejner-Brzezinska vice president for knowledge enterprise
Bakshi’s research is motivated by the need for engineering that not only enhances human well-being and is societally acceptable, but also respects ecological limits and prevents unintended harm. To meet this challenge, his work has resulted in systematic and scientifically rigorous methods for developing products and processes that contribute to sustainable development. Bakshi’s research integrates multiple disciplines including ecosystem ecology, environmental economics, energy policy, applied statistics and process systems engineering.
"I'm an evangelist for the kinds of things that you're doing. I think what you’ve donewill change the face of process engineering as we move forward in this millennium.” said David Tomasko associate dean for undergraduate education and student services inthe College of Engineering
Bakshi received a PhD in chemical engineering and master’s in chemical engineeringpractice from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a bachelor’s in chemicalengineering from University of Bombay in India. He serves on the Faculty AdvisoryBoard of Ohio State’s Sustainability Institute and is an adjunct professor at the Indian Institute of Technology in India.
This is an incredible, complete surprise. None of this would be possible without the support I’ve received from colleagues, the department and university. And we allknow, the credit truly goes to the students who do the work and put in the effort."
