2025 Distinguished Scholars and Early Career Distinguished Scholars

Meet the nine individuals chosen as our most distinguished scholars

The Distinguished Scholar Awards are among the highest annual honors Ohio State bestows on a faculty member in recognition of outstanding scholarly activity, research or creative works. This university-level award is awarded by the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge. ERIK coordinates the review of nominees and works with a team of reviewers to identify the recipients each year. In recognition of the different phases of a faculty member’s academic career, Ohio State has two separate awards.

Every year, Ohio State leaders interrupt classes, labs and meetings to announce the good news that a member of the faculty has been selected to receive one of the university’s most distinguished faculty awards.

Distinguished Scholars

The award honors six faculty members who demonstrate scholarly activity, research or creative works which represent exceptional achievements in their fields and who have brought distinction to themselves and Ohio State.

Bryan Carstens

“I've always thought that the way you do good work as a scientist is to empower your grad students and postdocs to do good work. So they did all the work. I just kind of took credit for it, I guess,” Carstens joked after learning of the award.
