In May, the National Science Foundation solicited input from industry, philanthropic foundations, academia, government venture capitalists and non-profit organizations in order to define a new type of very large scale research institute. The planned new “National Networks of Research Institutes” (NNRI) will create “new types of research institutes that have the coupled goals of engaging in use-inspired basic research and the active, intentional translation of that research into products and services.” The goal is to network individual institutes focused on complementary goals that will operate on long time horizons to create use-inspired research advances and innovations in critical areas of national need and with clear lab-to-market pathways.

Please join the Research Development Office for an internal briefing to learn more about this opportunity and the University’s plans for managing its involvement in these large-scale efforts.
