Ellen Patricia has been named director for the Office of Responsible Research Practices (ORRP). As director, Ellen leads the team responsible for assuring compliance with federal regulations, university policies, and state and local laws governing research in animal and human subjects.
ORRP provides administrative support to the university research community and the committees responsible for research review and oversight. ORRP helps Ohio State faculty, staff, and student researchers navigate research requirements through education and quality improvement initiatives designed to facilitate research, improve efficiencies, and ensure regulatory compliance. Additionally, ORRP maintains the following accreditations: Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) and the American Association for Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).
Ellen has served as the ORRP interim director since October 2019 and joined the office in 2007 as the assistant director of human subjects quality improvement program. Prior to joining ORRP, Ellen was the director of protocol compliance at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James). Additionally, Ellen was previously a medical research associate with Pharmacia and Upjohn. Ellen is a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) and earned a master’s in human physiology from The Ohio State University.
