To further strengthen the strategic direction and impact of Ohio State’s interdisciplinary center and institutes, ERIK is pleased to announce two key leadership appointments.
Loren Wold has been made a permanent member of the ERIK senior team as senior associate vice president for Research. Dr. Wold brings a robust health sciences perspective, currently serving in the Department of Surgery in the College of Medicine as professor and the John G. and Jeanne Bonnet McCoy Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine with a courtesy appointment in the College of Public Health. He has also served previously as a faculty member at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the College of Nursing.
Steven A. Ringel has been promoted to senior associate vice president for Research and will join ERIK’s senior leadership team. Dr. Ringel holds the Neal A. Smith Endowed Chair in Electrical and Computer Engineering and is a Distinguished University Professor. He maintains courtesy appointments in the Departments of Physics and Materials Science and Engineering. Since 2017, he has served as Associate Vice President for Research and is the founding Executive Director of the Institute for Materials and Manufacturing Research (IMR), a role he will continue.
Together, Drs. Wold and Ringel bring complementary expertise in health sciences and engineering that will be instrumental in stewarding Ohio State’s interdisciplinary centers and institutes. Their leadership will focus on two strategic priorities:
- Developing and growing emerging, future-focused research work, and
- Fortifying mature research institutes to maximize their impact and leverage existing strengths.
In their expanded roles, they will collaborate closely with faculty, college leadership, and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for strategic investment, streamline operations, and elevate interdisciplinary research and innovation across the university.
