The licensing and commercialization of new technologies, products, and services developed by university researchers is an increasingly active arena in universities nationwide.
Technology Commercialization and Knowledge Transfer works to foster an entrepreneurial culture across the university. The TCO team helps inventors realize the market potential of their intellectual property. TCO assists Ohio State researchers cultivate partnerships and inventions, maximize the value of Ohio State developments, and accelerate the transition of new developments into products, services, and new or expanded jobs. TCO also works with researchers to protect market differentiation, establish commercialization pathways, and secure revenue streams that flow to inventors, colleges and departments, and the university.
The TCO team works with researchers to develop confidential disclosure agreements (CDAs), material transfer agreements (MTAs), inter-institutional agreements, and license agreements on behalf of the university. TCO also offers guidance to faculty considering consulting arrangements.
TCO works closely with community commercialization partners including the Science and Technology Campus (SciTech), TechColumbus, and BioOhio as well as angel and venture capital investors. TCO is actively working with industry partners to attract larger pools of angel and venture capital for investment in maturing and commercializing the array of intellectual assets and property being developed by Ohio State researchers.
