Of the 14,680 degrees conferred in 2009-2010, more than 6,000 were in STEM-related (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields.
Ohio State offers unparalleled opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration
The broad range of programs offered at Ohio State provides an unparalleled opportunity for interdisciplinary collaboration in both educational programming and research. New discoveries and breakthroughs are increasingly found at the intersections of disciplinary inquiry, rather than in the rigid silos of traditional disciplines. At Ohio State, the assembly of 14 different colleges on one campus offers possibilities for multidisciplinary teams to address the complex technological and social issues that will characterize our society in the 21st century and to achieve novel solutions and breakthroughs not possible without multiple perspectives and sources of expertise.
Connecting with Ohio State
Industry Liaison Office
Are you interested in collaborating with one of the nation’s leading public research universities? Ohio State has a physical presence throughout the state, with six campuses and research centers located around Ohio. Ohio State researchers are world-class, recognized leaders in their fields. They make new discoveries and develop new technologies at the frontiers of science. The university’s state-of-the-art research facilities and instrumentation offer an unmatched resource for potential or existing industry collaborators. Our students are talented, highly motivated, and interested in opportunities that move them beyond the boundaries of the traditional classroom.
Linking industry’s needs to the university’s immense assets begins with the Industry Liaison Office (ILO). Since the ILO opened its doors in December 2008, more than 160 new collaborations have been created between industry and Ohio State researchers that are fostering economic development in Ohio and beyond. The ILO is the “front door” to the university – the initial point of contact for building collaborations or strengthening existing partnerships with Ohio State researchers.
Moving Technologies to the Marketplace

TCO highlights the technologies available for licensing and for further development. TCO showcases opportunities for capital investment in maturing and commercializing the array of intellectual assets and property being developed by Ohio State researchers.
State of Ohio Grant Opportunities
The Ohio Third Frontier, initiated in February 2002, began as a ten-year, $1.6 billion initiative to create new technology based products, companies, industries, and jobs in Ohio. In May 2010, Ohio voters approved a bond measure that will provide an additional $700 million of funding over four years, extending the Ohio Third Frontier Program through 2015.
For FY2011, the Ohio Third Frontier technology/industry focus areas are advanced energy, biomedical, advanced materials, instruments-control-electronics, and advanced propulsion.
Science and Technology Campus (SciTech)
The Office of Research (OR) supports the development of Ohio State’s state-of-the-art research park, the Science and Technology Campus (SciTech), located on the university’s west campus.
