The Public Research University: Forces of Change

Caroline Whitacre, vice president for research, delivered the annual State of Research address on Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater.

In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Morrill Act, this year’s address, titled “The Public Research University: Forces of Change,” reviewed the influences that created today’s public research university and explored the forces that will shape its future. Along the way, Ohio State research that exemplified how the university is meeting these future challenges were highlighted.

State of Research address: New date, new location

On Thursday, October 11, 2012, Caroline Whitacre, vice president for research, will deliver the 2012 annual State of Research address. The event, which is open to the public, will take place at 8:30 a.m. in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. (Please note the new date and location).

This year, in recognition of the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Morrill Act, Dr. Whitacre will review the influences that created today’s public research university and explore the forces that will shape its future, highlighting Ohio State research that exemplifies how the university is meeting these challenges.

Immediately following the address, Dr. Whitacre will present the 2012 Innovator of the Year Awards. A reception, honoring the winners and the nominees, will take place in the Mershon Hall lobby.

2012 State of Research address announced

On Thursday, October 11, 2012, Caroline Whitacre, vice president for research, will deliver the 2012 annual State of Research address. The event, which is open to the public, will take place at 8:30 a.m. in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater. Dr. Whitacre will also be presenting the Innovator of the Year Awards. A reception follows in the Mershon Hall lobby.
