Celebrating creativity and entrepreneurship
As Ohio State continues to expand its role in commercialization of research, it is important for us to create an environment that facilitates and rewards research creativity and entrepreneurship. Three university-wide awards are presented each year to support and stimulate entrepreneurial activity among our researchers.
The Innovator of the Year and Early Career Innovator of the Year awards recognize Ohio State researchers working actively to promote commercialization of university intellectual property through disclosures filed, patents applied for and/or received, technologies licensed, or spinoff companies formed. The presentation of separate award categories for more established researcher and for early career researchers allows cultivation of an entrepreneurial spirit among all of our investigators.
The Student Innovator of the Year award recognizes innovation and entrepreneurship among our students that has contributed to the development or commercialization of a new technology. This award is open to undergraduate and graduate students.
Deans from each college were asked to submit two nominations in each of the three categories. Nominations were reviewed by a committee composed of individuals both internal and external to the university.
This year’s awards will be presented on Thursday, October 11, 2012, as part of the annual “State of Research” address which begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Wexner Center Film/Video Theater.
