Center for Emergent Materials awarded $17.9 M renewal grant

The Center for Emergent Materials (CEM), a National Science Foundation (NSF) Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (MRSEC), has been awarded a $17.9 million renewal grant from NSF. The MRSEC program funds collaborative materials research by teams of researchers from multiple disciplines who have the ability to address complex problems in science and engineering. The six-year award will continue the work of three Interdisciplinary Research Groups: Spin-Orbit Coupling in Correlated Materials: Novel Phases and Phenomena, Control of 2D and 1D Electronic Structure by Surface Functionalization of Group-IV Graphane Analogues and Nonlinear Interactions between Spin Flux and Engineered Magnetic Textures. Christopher Hammel, Ohio Eminent Scholar and professor of physics, is the director of the CEM.
